DOERS do our country good
The following statement is from a Chevron Oil Company advertisement. “DOERS built this country. Hard-working DOERS and smart-working DOERS. They built the dams and the railroads, the Golden Gates and the Empire States. And all that doin’ took energy. Energy got us here. And it’s our job to make sure there’s enough energy to keep DOERS doin’ the stuff DOERS do…to keep us all doin’ what we do.”
We do need energy but without UNDOing the earth in the process. We need to create that energy without greenhouse gases and we need to create energy efficiency so we do not destroy our own home and we can keep doin’ what we do. So the generations to come can do what they must do. It is not up to governments, Chevron, and the few other energy giants to do this for us. They are not doin’ it. We must do it.
The Carbon Xprint model allows us all to do it. It does this by offering investments in clean energy and energy efficiency sold in units that match the cost of one ton of greenhouse gas. It is a way for us to do something about our own carbon footprint. To take responsibility for one ton of greenhouse gas one would buy one unit of the investment. The investment is dedicated to renewable energy and energy efficiency. A progressive bank could offer this right now without government intervention. Many of these clean energy technologies make financial and logical sense to do. Trillions of dollars are needed to move our infrastructure to clean energy. The result will be a savings that more than doubles the investment. We do not need to be an energy company, own rooftop space for solar, own a field for wind turbines, or even own our own home to do something measurable and meaningful. All we need to do is to take responsibility for our own carbon footprint by putting a part of our savings to work creating a piece of the solution. We will profit in more ways than one. We can all be DOERS on creating clean energy. We all can be DOERS on climate change.
